Chapter 1: Olympus Altis Life Rules & Guidelines
*Not knowing the rules does not make you exempt from them.
*If another player breaks rules it does NOT give you the right to break a rule yourself.
*Role-Play is required in almost all situations unless noted otherwise.
*Trying to skirt an obvious rule may still result in a ban.
*Play the game as it is meant to, don't attempt to get around things as this will not be excused.
*Staff reserve the right to ban players they feel are being toxic, disruptive or not playing by the spirit of the game mode.
*Not all rules can be listed so use common sense when playing.
*General Server rules can be found HERE.
*Additional Details and examples for rules can be found HERE and linked throughout the rules.

Preamble
Chapter 2: No Random Death Match [RDM]
This page serves as an extension of the official rules, providing additional explanations, examples, and clarifications to ensure all players fully understand the community's expectations.
#No killing or tasing another player without roleplay.
##Exception: If someone commits a direct hostile action against you, you may kill/tase them.
##Exception: You may freely shoot anyone who has your gang/group member hostage/restrained.
##Exception: When gangs are at war, they will see their warring enemies' names in red. Someone with a red name may be shot without engagement, whether on foot or in a vehicle. This applies to all weapons, including titans and explosives. Killing someone you are at war with while they are restrained is still against the rules.
#Gang/Group tags are used when engaging in roleplay. This also applies to the APD but not the R&R.
##APD and R&R dispatch can be used to engage all faction members.
#When roleplay engaging, you must specify who you are engaging and give the player(s) time to read (text message/dispatch) and react (At least 5 seconds)
##If someone reacts in a way that is compliant with your demand (Such as stopping their vehicle to get out), you must allow them to complete their reaction, even if it takes longer than 5 seconds.
##If someone reacts in a non-compliant fashion (Such as turning to aim at you or immediately taking evasive action), then you may shoot them before 5 seconds.
##You do not need the name of the player(s) to engage verbally, but it must be clear who you are trying to engage on.
#If a player abides by your demands, role-play it from there do not just shoot them.
#Warning shots may be given to air units (including the R&R) if you do not wish for them to land or loiter near your location (3 single rounds shot not directly at the air unit).
##Warning shots with a suppressed weapon are invalid.
#Side Chat and text direct chat can not be used to roleplay engage.
#Engagement typically applies within 1km of the initial fight but may extend if players actively participate, travel to the fight, or move around as part of the combat. Long-range weapons may justify extended engagements, but engagement should not be used to target distant, uninvolved players. Engagement follows active combat movement, and admin discretion will be used to evaluate disputes.
#RP has a 5-minute window and is extended by hostile action.
#Death ends the engagement
##Exception: When two tagged groups are actively engaged (with a player(s) on both sides alive), tagged players of either gang that get revived are still engaged.
#Do not excessively down/tase another player when not needed.
#APD Code 3 (Lights and Sirens) engages all reasonably close civilians with the APD. (If you can hear the code 3 vehicle) Evading the APD in a vehicle shortly after they code 3 engages the APD with the civilian.
#Some zones and situations change engagement rules. See Red Zones/Blue Zones, RnR, and Training.

While the official rules outline the fundamental dos and don’ts, this supplement expands on those principles with practical scenarios, common misconceptions, and best practices. It is not meant to replace the official rules but rather to assist players—both new and experienced—in navigating the nuances of roleplay and fair gameplay.
Chapter 3: No Vehicular Manslaughter or Random Vehicle Destruction [VDM][RVD]
#Do not use vehicles to run over a player unless it is an absolute last resort (Life or Death)
If any contradictions arise between this page and the official ruleset, the official rules take precedence. Always refer to the primary rules page for authoritative guidance.
#Players can not shoot another player downed by a vehicle or shortly thereafter unless shot at.

##Exception: A player that self-spangles or is spangled by a teammate can be shot without violating VDM rules.
By following these expanded guidelines, players can engage in more immersive roleplay experiences, reduce misunderstandings, and contribute to a more enjoyable environment for everyone.
#Players are allowed to collide with another vehicle (To pit, disable, rotor tap, immobilize, troll, etc.). However, if you collide with a vehicle or player on purpose and because of the collision, there is an explosion/death, You may be found accountable and banned. You initiate these maneuvers at your own risk.

#Do not purposefully blow up or destroy vehicles without a reason specified in the rules.
Chapter 2: No Random Death Match [RDM]
Random Death Match (RDM) refers to killing another player without prior roleplay engagement.
Roleplay/Engagement
Proper roleplay Engagement is generally, but is not required to be, a demand followed by a threat. As long as both parties understand there is engagement, the engagement is valid. It must be reasonably clear who a player is engaging and that it is engagement and not a troll or a joke. Engaging one person at the Platinum mine might not require a name because there is only one person there, so it is clear who is being engaged, while an engagement in Kavala Square may require a name or description because it may not be clear which target of many nearby players is being engaged.
Examples
*"Hands up or die"
*"Dont Revive [OS]"
*"Get out of the car or be shot"
*"Land or be Titaned"
*"Milo Hands up or Die"
*"Everyone Hands up or Die"
*Warning shots at a helicopter to leave the area

Common Misconceptions
*Saying Hands up or Die, then tasing is not necessarily RDM or Fail RP. As long as the engagement is reasonable, and players aren't being repeatedly deceptive when engaging, it is OK.

Hostile Action
Hostile action is an action that intentionally directly harms a player.
Examples
*Being shot at, lockpicking/stealing your vehicle, rotor tapping, bolt cutting, active APD warrants, APD house raids/searches, shooting you with a flare gun, physically interacting with your hostages, and purposely blowing up your property using explosives.
*Being armed/pointing a gun in your general direction and/or verbally insulting are NOT considered hostile actions. Neither is ramming/running over someone, whether or not you believe it is intentional.

Group/Gang tags
Group and Gang tags usually have 3-4 characters separated by a delimiter before a player's name. The server generally handles these when creating or joining a group or gang. Common delimiters are '- | [] {} ()'. Gang/Group tags must be sufficiently different to distinguish different groups. Using similar tags to 'hobo' engage is not allowed. Using another group's tags is acceptable if they are sufficiently different and are not used to create improper engagements. [Gang] and |OGang| are examples of acceptable tags.
[Medic] is not considered a group or gang tag because medics have little to no offensive capabilities and are generally not expected to communicate to the same degree as the APD or a gang. To engage all medics, players should text RNR services.
Reaction Time
After a demand is made, a reasonable amount of time must be given to react and fulfill the demand before the consequence of not fulfilling the demand can be enacted. The absolute minimum is 5 seconds and generally applies to simple commands like "Hands up or die." More complicated demands require additional time to comply before shooting. Clear non-compliance voids the requirement to wait.
Examples
*With normal "Hands up or Die" engagement, players should give at least 5 seconds for compliance
*Using long titan texts or universal texts that include instructions for on-foot,  vehicles, helicopters, and jets, all-in-one text messages should be given extra time to read and complete the actions listed. The additional time depends on the text's length and the demanded action.
*Planes take a long time to land; demanding a jet or plane land would require a significant amount of time and space to be allowed to fulfill the demand, making it difficult to successfully engage a plane this way. A more sensible demand may be something like 'Make small circles around Air hospital or be titaned" or "Fly North and don't return or be titaned"
*Some vehicles, like the Orca or Planes, have an animation to exit. When demanding someone put their hands up in one of these vehicles, extra time must be given to allow for the exit animation to be completed.

Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with an engagement demand waves the reaction time that must be given during an engagement. Non-compliance generally means interacting in a way that is directly opposed to the command given but does not necessarily include continuing an already underway action.
Examples
*A player turning to point a gun at a player who told them to put their hands up is non-compliant.
*A player starting to drive/run away after being told to put their hands up is non-compliant.
*A player already driving away after being told to put their hands up must be given an appropriate reaction time and time to slow down before being considered non-compliant.
*A player not doing anything after being told to put their hands up is not considered non-compliant in this context. The appropriate reaction time must be given before shooting.
Warning Shots
Warning shots are three distinct shots near an air vehicle without a suppressed weapon. Warning shots that hit or disable the vehicle are considered invalid. Warning shots are a demand not to land and to leave the area immediately. If the pilot continues landing after a reasonable reaction time, doesn't leave the area, or returns to the area within a 5-minute engagement timer, the demand is not met, so the pilot may be shot.
Warning shots are never valid against ground units or already landed aerial vehicles.
Engagement Area
All parties involved in an engagement should be reasonably aware an engagement occurred. Because of this, text engaging someone on the opposite side of the map from the person a player intends to fight is inappropriate. Always try to send engagements to someone who will be present in the situation. We make the assumption that group members will communicate with their members that an engagement occurred.
Engagements are typically carried out in a 1km area. However, certain situations can move or extend this area, such as a car chase, a Titan launcher used on an aerial vehicle, clear intent to support an engagement, or multiple people fighting. The key component will be the reasonableness of both parties knowing they can be killed.
Examples
*A fight between [OS] and [Evil] breaks out at the Weed processor. Members of [OS] and [Evil] at Kavala Square are not part of the same situation and should not kill each other. If members of [OS] and [Evil] are clearly heading to Weed Processor to support their gangmates in the engagement, they would then be considered part of the engagement and could be killed.
*Masonn sends a Titan text message to David. David and Masonn are 2km apart. It is acceptable for Mason to titan David beyond the typical 1km range.
*The APD are fighting [OS] in Sofia, and Officer Rexo sees an [OS] member in Athira Rexo must still engage because the two situations are considered separate.
*The APD engages [OS] in Therisa, and results in a vehicle pursuit that ends near Gravia. All [OS] and APD members in Gravia and the surrounding area are engaged because the engagement moved with the pursuit.
Death ends Engagement
As long as one tagged member of each engaged group is alive in the area where an engagement is occurring, recently revived players can be shot.
Excessive Tasing
Any tasing/downing more than is reasonably necessary for the situation is excessive. Generally, the rule of thumb is three tazes. If there is no intention to continue a situation, a second tase may be considered excessive; likewise, if a 4th tase is needed to secure a player who may have been far away from the initial tase, it is acceptable.
Examples
*Tasing someone six times because your friend is going to Vigilante outpost to get zip ties is excessive.
*Tasing someone three times and then shooting them with a lethal sidearm you had the whole time is excessive.
*Tasing someone four times while you run across a field to restrain them is acceptable.
*Tasing someone five times during an active fight when you can't reach the tased player without being shot is acceptable.
Code 3 Engagement
Code 3 is both active lights and sirens on a police vehicle. If a player can hear the Code 3 vehicle, they are allowed to shoot the police. It is worth noting that Medic sirens and APD sirens are identical. It is important that the sirens come from an APD vehicle for it to be an APD engagement. If a police vehicle is Code 3 following or approaching a civilian to initiate a stop, and the civilian evades in a vehicle, a police chase has been started, and the police are engaged with the civilian.
Crossfire
Sometimes, when fighting, unintended casualties will occur. These are generally acceptable as long as they are unintended or unavoidable.
Examples
*If someone walks in the middle of an active gunfight and is shot accidentally, would be acceptable crossfire.
*Someone standing in front of an intended target, would be acceptable crossfire.
*Repositioning to 'line up' a crossfire situation would still be RDM.
*Using an explosive on an intended target and accidentally killing others nearby would be acceptable crossfire.

Chapter 3: No Vehicular Manslaughter or Random Vehicle Destruction [VDM][RVD]
Vehicles should not be used to repeatedly run someone over (often called 'spangle') and then kill them or gain an unfair advantage in combat. Vehicles should not be used to repeatedly run a player over. When intentionally hitting someone or something with your vehicle, you are responsible for any damages.
Examples
*Running someone over and then leaving the area is fine
*Running someone over and then waiting for them to reset and engage/fight is allowed.
*Running someone over and killing them immediately after they regain control of their character is VDM.
*Killing someone who has run themselves over is not VDM.
*Killing someone who has been run over by their group/gang member is not VDM
*Killing someone when a player doesn't know who ran them over might be VDM.
*Accidentally running into a vehicle causing an explosion is not VDM
*Intentionally stopping in front of, cutting off, or ramming a vehicle, causing an explosion is VDM.

Random Vehicle Destruction
Vehicles should never be a primary target with the goal of destruction. A player/driver/pilot should always be the intended target. Blowing up a vehicle without another allowed goal, like killing a player or accessing a required federal event, is against the rules.
Examples
*Triggering an explosive on a vehicle with no players nearby is RVD.
*Triggering an explosive on a vehicle intending to kill a nearby engaged player is allowed.
*RPGing a landed Ghosthawk with no nearby players is RVD.
*Accidentally blowing up a helicopter while trying to flip it over to lockpick and steal is allowed.
*Shooting a Vehicle with no driver until it blows up is RVD.
*Ramming a vehicle blocking an entrance is not RVD

Chapter 4: New Life Rule
Chapter 4: New Life Rule
If a player dies and respawns, they can not return within 1km from where they died for 15 minutes unless one of the noted exceptions applies. Being revived does not count as dying for this rule. Players are not required to 'forget' their past life and can interact with a previous 'life' as long as they don't return within a 1km radius of their death.
#If you die for any reason apart from dying by an Arma bug you may not return to that area for 15 minutes. (1 Kilometer from where you died)
Exceptions to NLR
##Exception: When a civilian is lethaled by cops at Rebel Outposts, APD Escorts, or Gang Base, NLR does NOT apply.
*Arma Bugs
#The APD does not have NLR, to simulate the size of an actual police force.
*Being a member of the APD
#R&R has additional NLR-exempt scenarios, which can be found in the R&R handbook.

*Warzone
*Lethaled by a cop at Rebel Outposts, APD Escorts, or Gang Base.

Examples where NLR Still Applies
*Crashed a Vehicle
*Chose to respawn
*Superjumped during combat
*RDMed/VDMed

Chapter 5: No Combat Logging
Chapter 5: No Combat Logging
Combat logging is purposely avoiding combat or its consequences through death, respawning, or storing a vehicle.
#Disconnecting, aborting, or purposefully killing yourself while in an active situation with another player is not allowed.
Examples
#Storing a vehicle while engaged with another player or within 5 minutes after combat is considered vehicular combat logging.
*Storing a vehicle because a player believes they are about to be engaged is Combat Logging.
#Logging out, intentionally killing yourself, or storing a vehicle specifically to avoid an obvious encounter from happening is also considered combat logging.
*Jumping off a building causing death after being engaged is Combat Logging.
#You may not drive a vehicle into the water to prevent it from being stolen, searched, etc.
*Shooting at a player with an armed vehicle and then storing it is combat logging.
*Storing and re-pulling an armed vehicle to refill ammo while engaged is combat logging.
*Purposefully disconnecting internet connection, Alt+F4ing, or purposefully causing a client to kick while in combat is Combat Logging. It is highly suggested to record and try to reset a situation if one of these occurs accidentally.
*Storing items in a house is never combat logging.
*Storing money in an ATM is never combat logging.
*Impounding or seizing a vehicle while engaged or to prevent it being stolen/searched/or legally destroyed by another player is combatlog.

Chapter 6: Meta-Gaming
Chapter 6: Meta-Gaming
Metagaming refers to using information a player wouldn't normally have access to to gain or create an unfair situation.
#You may not use or share information from one faction to a new faction and deal with the situation.
Examples
#Do not post situational information about other players in side/gang chat.
*Accessing a factions 'on duty' channels in Teamspeak while not playing on that faction.
##Exception: AAN news broadcasts can contain situational information.
*Providing situational information to your gang/friends whilst on a whitelisted faction.
#You must wait 15 minutes before switching factions.
*Identifying a large illegal run as a Civilian and switching to a Police role to intercept the run.
#Players can “Take a hostage comms and GPS”. After having communications and GPS taken, players may not communicate situational information outside of the game, over the radio, or in a text chat.
*Calling out or indicating that a GhostHawk or other high-value vehicle is active in side chat. This includes things like "Nice Ghosthawk."
*Calling out or indicating that there is a player at a specific location in side chat. This includes things like "Way to camp Kavala Rebel"
*Using out-of-game communications like Discord to talk with other civilian players or people not playing on Olympus is not metagaming.
*Posting that there is a Ghosthawk alive in Warozone, or that [OS] is starting a large Meth run through the AAN news broadcast is not Metagaming.

PowerGaming
PowerGaming is using roleplay to do something that would otherwise be impossible in the game itself, like gagging a player or destroying a medic's panic button. Olympus as a Lite RP server, doesn't require players to adhere to most power gaming, We do consider phrases like "I have taken your comms and GPS, and have smashed your panic button" Valid powergaming, any communication or sharing of situational information out of game or outside of direct chat after being given this demand as a hostage is metagaming.
Other Powergaming like 'using gags' or 'gluing a medic's feet to the floor' are not required to be roleplayed, but if not adhered to may be a valid reason to be killed.
Examples
*After being told your panic button coms and GPS have all been destroyed, telling your friends in Discord where you are is against the rules.
*After being told you have been gagged, continuing to talk is allowed, but you can be killed for disobeying.

Chapter 7: Explosive Items
Chapter 7: Explosive Items
This chapter specifies the use of specific explosive items.
#Suicide vests may be used following normal roleplay rules. Misuse of suicide vests to kill restrained players or destroy vehicles may still result in administrative action.
Suicide Vests
#Suicide Vests can be used without RP in redzones/terrors.
Outside of redsoznes and terror situations, Suicide vests follow all normal RP rules, including Engagement, RVD Hostage Situations, and to some extent Combat Logging. Players should roleplay situations with a suicide vest with these other rules in mind.
#When using a Titan on aerial vehicles, the pilot must first be directly notified, stating your demands and that you are using a Titan, if demands are not met (within reason), you may Titan the aerial vehicle. If a titan message is sent during an active engagement and the engagement lasts longer than 5 minutes, the player may still fire the titan at the pilot/vehicle that was messaged if demands were not met. Any tagged group/gang member may send a titan message to the pilot of the aerial vehicle.
Examples
#Titans may be used without texts in illegal areas.
*Yelling 'Allah Akbar' then detonating an explosive is not a valid engagement or Roleplay.
##Exception: R&R units still need proper titan engagement in redzones.
*Detonating a suicide vest to intentionally destroy vehicles is still RVD.
#Titans may also be fired at ground vehicles and other players via standard RP rules. Misuse of Titan launchers to kill restrained players or destroy vehicles may still result in administrative action.
*Intentionally killing your friend in restraints is still considered Fail RP.
#When a player is directly fired upon by an aerial vehicle, the player may return fire with a titan without sending a text first. (Gang engagement does not apply to this rule)
*Blowing up your vehicles or killing yourself to avoid being taken hostage or into custody without RP is still combat logging.
*Roleplaying a hostage situation with the APD using a suicide vest or threatening to blow yourself up if anyone enters your gas station robbery is valid roleplay.
*telling everyone nearby to put their hands up or be blown up is valid RP.

Titans
Using the lock function to fire a Titan missile at an aerial vehicle outside of a red zone requires sending the pilot a Titan text message before firing. Using a Titan missle without the lock functionality follows normal engagement rules, similar to an RPG. Titan text messages allow an entire gang/group to titan a single aircraft/pilot. Titan text messages to not allow the sending group to titan all members of the receiving group, only the texted pilot/aircraft. The Pilot of the aircraft must receive the Titan text message.
Reaction times must be considered when using a Titan. If you are shot at by an aerial vehicle, only the players who have been shot at are allowed to return fire with a lock on titan without a titan text message. Titans can be used without a titan text when both the pilot and Titan Launcher are in a red zone (Medics should still be titan engaged in redzones). Changing pilots does not nullify a titan text; the vehicle can still be titaned after changing pilots, assuming demands were not followed.
Examples
Example Texts:
*Land or be Titaned
*Land or be Titaned by [OS]
*Auto hover or be Titaned
*Fly North or be Titaned
*Fly in circles or be Titaned
Example Situations:
*Sending a titan text to a pilot, waiting 10 seconds for the pilot to comply, then titaning if they do not comply is allowed.
*Sending a titan text to a pilot, waiting 10 seconds for the pilot to comply, then your gangmate titaning if they do not comply is allowed.
*Sending a titan text to a pilot gangmate, waiting 10 seconds for the pilot to comply, then titaning if they do not comply is not allowed.
*Telling someone Hads up or die, then shooting them with a non-locked titan missle is allowed.
*Titaning the APD flying in Warzone without a text message is allowed.
*Titaning a Medic flying in Warzone without a text message is prohibited.

Chapter 8: Hostage / Player Robbing
Chapter 8: Hostage / Player Robbing
Hostage / Player Robbing is when a player is held against their will and either robbed of their vehicles, items or gear, arrested through the APD/Vigilante system, or used in negotiations. Players can do one of the three (Rob, Arrest, Negotiate) but not multiple.
#A player may be held hostage for 15 minutes, after which they may choose to stay up to another 15 minutes or leave.
Examples
##Exception: A vigilante may hold a player for longer than 15 minutes if the jail doors are open and they make their best effort to repair it.
*Players that have been tased and restrained are considered hostages.
#Do not kill players in restraints
*Players that have their hands up and have been listening to commands are loosely considered hostages.
##Killing a player who is currently tased or restrained with the clear intent to free the player from future consequences is considered Fail RP.
*Players that surrender themselves to vigilantes or the APD are considered hostages.
##Exception: You may kill players who do not follow reasonable demands
Safe Release
##Exception: You may kill players if hostage negotiations with the APD have failed, or the APD fails to show up in a reasonable timeframe.
Hostage takers should make every effort to release a hostage safely unless they have a reason stated in the rules allowing them to kill the hostage. In either scenario, the hostage must be released within 15 minutes unless they choose to stay longer. The 15-minute timer starts when the player is restrained; however, attempting to extend the time a player is a hostage by refusing to restrain a hostage may be grounds for a rule skirting ban. A safe release means being unrestrained, within 1km of a garage or their initial restraint, and healed so they aren't limping(If the hostage is limping because their kidney was stolen and not because of their health, that is fine). Arresting a player is considered a safe release. The auto-unrestraint is not considered a safe release. If there is some reason a hostage taker cannot release the hostage safely, a safe release is not required. Abandoning a hostage with the intent to return before the auto-unrestraint but failing to do so will be considered an unsafe release.
#After a hostage situation/robbery, the player must be unrestrained and released safely, healed/not limping, either within 1 kilometer of a garage or 1 kilometer from their point of restraint.
Examples
##The auto-unrestraint is not considered a safe release.
*Robbing a player and healing them with a First Aid Kit, then releasing them in the vicinity where they were restrained is a safe release
#If you rob a player, you may not hold them for ransom, and vice versa.
*Robbing a player, then shooting them without a valid reason, is not a safe release.
#You may not take the same person hostage more than once every 30 minutes, even through server restarts.
*Arresting a player is a Safe release
##Exception: If the person initiates engagement first and commits a hostile action toward you, you may take them hostage again. This does not include the APD.
*Taking a player hostage and then releasing them for your group/gang to kill, or telling a vigi they can have the player afterward, is not a safe release.
#APD members outnumbered 3 to 1 with guns clearly pointed at them need to surrender and abide by the hostage rules.
*Failing to release a hostage because the hostage's gangmate killed you is not a bannable offense.
##Exception: APD members who are acting as hostage negotiators may not be taken hostage before, during, or immediately after hostage negotiations.
*Failing to release a hostage because you left the hostage alone and got killed by someone else is a bannable offense.
#Members of the APD may not be restrained or excessively tased when responding to Federal Events, Pharmaceutical, Bank, Art Gallery or APD Escort events or in the aftermath of the events above.
Killing A Hostage
##Exception: APD members neutralized at Federal Events who put their hands freely may be restrained and escorted throughout the federal event area. They may not be robbed.
Certain situations allow a hostage taker to kill a hostage, such as failed APD negotiations, sufficient RP reasons, or failure to comply with basic commands. Otherwise, players in restraints should not be killed.
#A limited number of medics may be taken hostage per group for a Federal Event.
Examples
##1-3 Medics Online (Hostage Max 1)
*Telling a player they must empty their entire bank account, or they will die is NOT a valid reason to kill a hostage.
##4-5 Medics Online (Hostages Max 2)
*Telling a player they must die for a valid and sufficient roleplay reason, E: sacrificing a player to the Great Tree as part of a gang ceremony, is fine
##6+ Medics Online (Hostages Max 3)
*PowerGaming Like, saying you have been gagged, and a player continuing to talk is a valid reason to kill a hostage.
#Taxi rules change some hostage / player-robbing rules.
*Telling a player not to talk or die is valid.
*Telling a player to sing the alphabet backward is NOT a valid reason to kill a hostage.
*If the APD have been contacted and do not show up for negotiations or fail to meet a demand, hostages can be killed. Timelines for negotiations need to be reasonable. The hostage should be made aware this is why they are dying.

Hostage Crossfire
Occasionally, a hostage may be killed accidentally during a fight. While, generally, hostages should not be killed without a specified reason, accidents happen and are allowable.
Examples
*Shooting at a player escorting someone and accidentally killing a hostage is acceptable.
*Accidentally shooting a hostage while trying to kill a nearby player is acceptable.
*Killing a hostage in a car while trying to kill a non-hostage player in the car is acceptable.
*Repositioning to 'line up' a crossfire situation is still Fail RP.
*Killing a player in restraints to get them out of restraints is Fail RP.
*Using a suicide vest to kill a player in restraints can still be fail RP.

Taking the APD hostage
The APD can be taken hostage by outnumbering them by a ratio of 3-to-1. Players taking the APD hostage must make it clear that they intend to take the officer hostage and that they have a ratio of 3-to-1 armed civilians to police with weapons pointed at the cops. Generally, this is done by saying "3 to one" to a police officer, which engages the APD identically to "Hands up or Die". The APD must cooperate with a 3 to 3-to-1 ratio unless they have a tactical advantage. Once an officer is taken hostage, they can be robbed, negotiated, or killed, following normal hostage rules.
Exceptions
APD officers responding to or in the aftermath of a Federal Event or as the negotiator for a Hostage Situation cannot be taken hostage. APD members are considered to be responding if they are traveling to one of these scenarios or are releasing prisoners before responding to a scenario. If an officer chooses to continue processing a prisoner, respond to a different situation, or continue an active situation, they can be taken hostage. If an officer is in an ongoing engagement when the event begins, they can still be taken hostage. An officer defending themselves in a new situation while en route to a federal event or hostage negotiation does not allow them to be taken hostage.

Taking the RnR hostage
The RNR can be taken hostage similarly to any civilian and does not need a ratio of 3-to-1. Medics must always value their lives and have some added requirements for how they must act while hostage. Medics cannot be robbed, demanded to drop gear/items, or required to unlock their vehicles. However, they can still be used in negotiations or forced to provide or deny medical services to a specific group or individual for 15 minutes or the length of a federal event. Only a certain number of medics are allowed to be taken hostage for federal events. Medics who are in a Civilian gang should not be taken hostage by that gang while they are on duty.

Chapter 9: Worker's Protection License (WPL)
Chapter 9: Worker's Protection License (WPL)
Workers' Protection License holders are normal civilians; the only rule change is that the server will not allow them to harvest illegal items. A WPL holder can still process illegal items, rob players, fight the APD, and generally do anything a non-WPL civilian can. For non-rule information on WPL go HERE.
#Workers Protection License (WPL) holders are no exception to the law/rules. They must follow all server rules.
#License holders with a WPL cannot harvest illegal items as the WPL is meant for those engaged in legal enterprises.

Chapter 10: Vigilante
Chapter 10: Vigilante
Vigilante License holders are normal civilians and can rob, negotiate, and generally do everything a non-vigilante civilian can do. Rules that apply only to vigilanties apply to things only Vigilantes can do.
#Vigilantes are no exception to the law/rules. They must follow all server rules.
Grouping
#Players associated with “meta-gaming” while having a vigilante license may be subject to administrative action.
Grouping with a wanted player doesn't stop at not being in the same literal group/gang. If two players are working together or protecting each other, they will be considered in the same 'group'.
##You may not group with a player and allow them to build a bounty just to collect on it in the end.
##You may not exchange/receive any form of compensation for sending a player to jail other than the standard bounty reward.
##You may not follow a player around who is breaking the law and continue to collect the bounty on them over and over.
#Do NOT take a wanted player who is already restrained away from another Vigilante and then send them to jail unless the Vigilante has asked you to.
#A player may NOT be robbed or held for ransom and then jailed for a bounty.
#Vigilantes should never attempt to arrest an APD Detainee. If APD asks for assistance, that is fine but do not run into an area yelling, "I'm a vigilante," and attempt to arrest someone the officer is dealing with.
#If you are arresting a wanted player, you are required to;
##Let the player know what they are wanted for.
##Let the player know their bounty amount.
##Let the player know you will be sending them to jail.
###These can be waved at the detainees request
##Take the player to the jail transport located at all Vigilante outposts.

Chapter 11: Taxi
Chapter 11: Taxi
Taxi License holders are normal civilians. While not driving a taxi, they can rob, negotiate, and generally do anything non-taxi civilians can do. However, a taxi driver should not assist in a hostage situation while driving a taxi, and they should not issue invoices that are not agreed upon. Taxi drivers should make every effort to take a passenger where they agreed to go. Taxi license holders are only considered Taxi drivers while operating a taxi skinned vehicle.
#Taxi vehicles may not be stolen
##Exception: Taxis may be stolen while inside a red/illegal zone
##Exception: The taxi can be stolen if the driver or passenger initiates hostile activity against another player.
##Exception: If you refuse to unlock a vehicle to let a player rob the items inside, your taxi may be stolen.
#Taxi drivers may not partake in hostage-taking or robbing others
##If while driving someone, a group states to pull over so they can take the person hostage, you may abide by the demands to preserve your own life.
#Taxi drivers may issue a fee for driving a player from Point A to Point B
##The driver can receive this money before the drive, but the price & place must be agreed upon first.
##Once paid, the Taxi driver must take the person to the agreed-upon place.
##Taxi drivers may not issue fees unless they are giving a ride to a person and a fee amount has been agreed upon.

Chapter 12: Interacting with Rescue & Recovery
Chapter 12: Interacting with Rescue %26 Recovery
The RnR can be taken hostage for Roleplay, forced to provide or deny medical services. Because the RnR handbook requires Medics to value their life and because medics have very little defensive or offensive capabilities, they have a few extra protections beyond other players. RnR members can't be robbed or compelled to drop gear or unlock vehicles, and the RNR is only kill on site at Rebel Outposts, Warzone Island, and active gang bases/turfs. Because of a game limitation, medics can not revive players who do not request a revive.
#Do not Interfere with R&R unless they are going against your directives.
#Citizens can only order a medic to revive a deceased player who is requesting medical service.
#Never harvest a kidney from or rob an R&R member for any reason.
##Exception: R&R vehicles negligently unlocked by an R&R member may be 'stolen'.
#In specific zones, R&R ground units may be killed on sight. Found HERE
#R&R may be killed or taken hostage when following the guidelines found here.
#Medical services may be denied to you based on the criteria found here.

Chapter 13: Red Zone / Illegal Zone / Rebel Outposts / Warzone Island
Chapter 13: Red Zone / Illegal Zone / Rebel Outposts / Warzone Island
Red zones alter our RDM and RP Engagement rules and allow players to kill each other on site.
#Red zones are kill on site, and no RP engagement is required by civilians (Killing a player in restraints inside of a red zone is still considered Fail RP).
Warzone
##Exception: R&R ground units must still be properly engaged in illegal zones other than the warzone island, gang base skirmishes, or active turfs.  R&R aerial units always need proper engagement.
The Warzone is a large Red Zone with Cartels that gangs can fight over. There is no NLR in the warzone, and no NLR in Theresa when returning directly to warzone.
#Purposefully fishing for RDM reports by standing on the outskirts of a red zone can result in administrative action.
Notes
#When a civilian is killed on Warzone Island or at any cartel, NLR will not apply.
It is sometimes difficult to determine if someone is inside or outside a red zone while inside a red zone. Because of the difficulty, players inside are given some amount of leeway when shooting players on the borders of red zones. This is done by admin discretion, but generally, when it's clear a player is interacting with a nearby red zone, they will be considered inside the zone. Players who purposely loiter outside of red zones to get other players banned may have their reports denied, and if the problem is repeated, they may face administrative action. This doesn't mean players can't stand on the edges of red zones, but if a player on the edge of a red zone looking in is shot, it will likely be considered acceptable.
#Players who have the sole intention of immediately returning to Warzone after death in or around Theresa (within 1 kilometer of Theresa) may respawn in Therisa and head back to Warzone, provided their actions within or around Theresa are limited to going to the garage, spawning a vehicle and driving to Warzone.
Remember, Titans can be used in illegal zones without texts but not against the RnR.

Chapter 14: Blue Zones
Chapter 14: Blue Zones
Blue Zones are similar to Red Zones in that they change the rules regarding RDM and RP engagement but only change the rules between APD and Civilians. Civilian-to-civilian engagement remains unchanged. Most Blue Zones move around the map and take time to update. If a player is reasonably near one of the Blue Zone event vehicles, like the APD escort or Pharmasutical Truck, they are considered inside the Blue Zone, even if the map has not been updated yet.
#The Altis Pharmaceutical Escort event, APD Escort event, Vehicle Yard Event, and Art Gallery event Blue Zones allow civilians to kill cops on sight, no RP is required by civilians.
##RDM rules for civilian on civilian engagements are still enforced in Blue Zones.
#APD Escort Event
## Use of explosives against the APD Escort event with intent to blow up the escort vehicle is prohibited and will result in an event disruption ban.
##Any civilian interacting with, interfering with, or seen participating in the APD Escort event may be shot on sight by the APD; no RP is required.

Chapter 15: Federal Event
Chapter 15: Federal Event
Federal events follow red zone rules while active and standard rules while inactive. The Red Zone for federal events extends to the outer Anit-Air rings of the Federal Reserve, Blackwater Armory, and Jail. For events without an Anti-Air circle, the Red Zone is the normal event circle.
# Federal Events include: The Blackwater Armory event, Federal Reserve event, Altis Penitentiary event, or Evidence Lockup event.
Notes
#A federal event is considered a legal area until it is being robbed, once an event begins, the event area then turns into a red zone. (Location is shown on map)
*Remember, APD officers can't be excessively tased or restrained when responding or participating in a federal event.
#Any vehicles left at a federal event after the event is over may be seized by the APD.
*Vehicles that are seized do not return to a player's garage, even with insurance.
#Any vehicles involved in a federal event and followed out of the federal event may be seized if caught. See the APD handbook for more information about seizure.
#Killing jail inmates is not permitted.

Chapter 16: Event-Specific Rules
Chapter 16: Event Specific Rules
Events run by staff members are subject to that staff members' rules. Always listen to the staff broadcasts.
#Event rules may be modified by the staff member running the event, always follow guidelines set forth by staff broadcasts and use common sense
Conquest
#Conquest
Conquest is held on its own server, so RDM and NLR rules do not apply. Backpacking and wall peaking are allowed.
##Warzone rules apply inside the conquest zone (no NLR, KOS)
Gang Base/Gang Turf
##Players may look through walls & floors, but may not poke their gun through to shoot.
*Once a Base of Turf is active, the base and turf rules go into effect. Once the event is over, the rules return to normal. Any engagements that start before the event ends due to hostile action continue after the event is over, following normal engagement rules.
##Jumping through windows is allowed, except when the jump requires floating or vaulting to complete
*Explosives that are not explicitly disallowed can be used.
#Gang Base / Gang Turfs
Fighting Force and Changing Gangs
##Warzone rules apply inside active Gang base / Gang Turfs zone (no NLR, KOS)
*A fighting force may not be substituted when an event starts; the first 6 or 10 players from a gang to participate are the fighting force. If too many players participate, unless the gang/group can clearly state who was not supposed to participate and that the roster was made clear before the event, all participating players will be held responsible.
##Civilians may not make use of armed aerial vehicles, slung armed vehicles, or AT vehicles.
*Members of gangbase-holding gangs can change gangs freely, but they may not participate in Bases/Turfs until the next time the held gangbase is fought over, regardless of if that player participated in the actual GangBase.
##Vigilantes/APD may not tase or restrain players participating in the event (this includes players spawning, gearing, or traveling in the general vicinity and nearby rebels)
Terror
##Players may not utilize RPGs, Mines, and Explosive charges/IEDS at the Gangbase Skirmish.
When a terror is called, there is a brief notification period before the terror actually starts; during this time, normal rules apply. Once the terror starts, civilians and cops can shoot all civilians and cops on sight. Engagements with the RNR should still be roleplayed normally.
##A gang's fighting force (including non-members) may not exceed 10 players for the Gang base and 6 players for Gang Turfs.
##A gang that controls a Gang base may not participate in or interfere with other gang bases/gang turfs. Members of a winning gang cannot change groups or gangs to fight in multiple Gang bases or Gang turfs.
##Players may look through walls & floors but may not poke their gun through to shoot.
##Jumping through windows is allowed, except when the jump requires floating or vaulting to complete.
#Terror
##All players are KOS inside the city that the terror was started in until the terror ends.
##R&R members are off-limits during terror unless they have been directed not to offer services. For more information, refer to the R&R Master Handbook.
#HQ Takeover
##Civilians and cops are KOS to each other in and around the marked HQ.
#Martial Law
##Martial Law can be called by an Admin or by a Senior APD member.
##Martial Law may be called if a city is out of control and officers can not regain control.
##During Martial Law, any civilian seen in the city can be downed and restrained on sight.
###Exception: Civilians in houses must be properly engaged.
##During Martial law, all civilians are engaged with the APD.
#Bank
##The Bank is considered a legal area until it is being robbed, once an event begins, the event area then turns into a red zone. (Location is shown on map)
##Any vehicles left at a bank after the event is over may be seized by the APD.
##Any vehicles involved in a Bank event and followed out of the area may be seized if caught. See the APD handbook for more information about seizure.

Chapter 17: Interacting with Whitelist Training / Player Tutorial
Chapter 17: Interacting with Whitelist Training / Player Tutorial
Players should not intentionally mess with other players who are training or in the tutorial. This includes being disruptive, damaging or destroying vehicles, and hostile actions. If a player uses training or tutorial protections to avoid an obvious encounter or commits a hostile action first, all protections are revoked.
#When APD Training occurs in game, no player can interfere with the training.
APD Training
#When R&R Training occurs in-game, no player can interfere with the training. R&R training is indicated by players having [Training] in their name.
APD training occurs in an APD dome at Pyrgos HQ. The dome will likely be locked, and an APD Corporal or higher will be training one or multiple deputies.
#No player can interfere with players participating in the server's tutorial. Players participating in the tutorial are indicated with a yellow name,
RNR Training
##Exception: Players participating in the tutorial with over 30 hours on the server (indicated by NOT having a yellow name) are exempt and may be initiated on/robbed.
RNR training consists of a flight test that occurs across the Altis map. A Supervisor or higher will conduct training with one Basic Paramedic. The Pilot will have [Training] in their name.
##Exception: Players using the tutorial to avoid an obvious situation may be initiated on/robbed.
Tutorial
##Exception: Players participating in the server's tutorial that initiate an engagement may be initiated on/robbed.
Players with a Yellow name and a subtext that says "In Tutorial" are actively in the tutorial and are protected by the tutorial rules.

Chapter 18: Miscellaneous
Chapter 18: Miscellaneous
*You may destroy a house for fun; it just can't be about to be searched/raided.
#You may not destroy property to prevent it from being searched/raided.
*Defining Extreeme Harassment and extreme trolling is nearly impossible; these situations are handled case-by-case.
#Extreme harassment may result in a ban.
Exploiting
#Switching to a different account to avoid a current ban on your account will result in both accounts being banned.
Exploiting broadly is using a system in a way that was not intended. If an exploit is used 'for fun' and not to gain an advantage, it is generally acceptable.
#Anyone found to be excessively trolling in any way to ruin or impede another community member's experience may be banned.
Examples
#Exploiting is considered as abusing an in-game bug or using a game mechanic in a way that is not intended to be used and may result in harsh punishments.
*SuperJumping/DPI while not in combat is fine. SuperJumping/DPI when in combat or when in a red zone is not.
#You may face administrative action for violating APD and Medic rules while on duty.
*Glitching into rocks or walls to avoid combat or kill other players is against the rules.
#Buying or selling any Olympus assets will result in administrative action. Assets include Olympus money, virtual/physical items, and vehicles.
*Giving away tasers as a cop without proper RP, like a hostage situation, is exploiting.
#Using multiple accounts by one user simultaneously in-game will result in a ban on all accounts.
*Any attempt at items or money duplication is exploiting.
#Bypassing the house limits of 5 houses per player via the use of multiple accounts will result in administrative action.
*Scamming, lying, or generally deceiving as part of normal RP is not exploiting. Lying to staff or in a dispute may still result in administrative action.
#Unsanctioned betting outside of the game server in any manner will result in administrative action.
*Escorting or reviving a player through a wall is exploiting.
#If an APD member witnesses a player blatantly breaking server rules a patrol officer+ can send them directly to jail for rule-breaking.
*Looking through walls is exploiting outside of Conquest and active Gangbase/turf.
##If an APD member falsely arrests another player, they may face administrative action.
*Moving, driving, flying, or getting out of a vehicle while tazed or restrained is exploiting.
#Players must have in-game sound effects turned up to the point where direct voice communication from other players is audible.

#Do not sit with an open mic playing music, yelling or other disruptive sounds.
Bugs
#Disputes should only be used to challenge another player's actions or request compensation.
A bug, as opposed to an exploit, is generally outside of the player's control and is generally acceptable as long as the player does not take advantage of the bug. Some things that may be abnormal in real life are NOT Arma bugs. For example, a real-life traffic collision may not cause one car to explode, but it is perfectly normal within Armas damage models and would not be a bug.
#Submitting false or misleading reports or compensation requests may result in administrative action.
Examples
*Gliding on walls.
*Dying to desks.
*Falling through the map.
*Vehicles spawning on top of each other.
*Accidentally glitching into a rock is OK, but the player should not kill anyone until they have gotten out, and they should make every effort to escape or contact staff.

Disputes and Reports
*Disputes should be used only to point out and potentially resolve issues occurring in the game. Disputes should not be used to communicate with medics while dead or to transfer money without risk.
*Blatantly or negligently lying on a dispute, player report, comprequest, or appeal can result in administrative action.

Revision as of 14:13, 14 April 2025

Chapter 1: Olympus Altis Life Rules & Guidelines

  • Not knowing the rules does not make you exempt from them.
  • If another player breaks rules it does NOT give you the right to break a rule yourself.
  • Role-Play is required in almost all situations unless noted otherwise.
  • Trying to skirt an obvious rule may still result in a ban.
  • Play the game as it is meant to, don't attempt to get around things as this will not be excused.
  • Staff reserve the right to ban players they feel are being toxic, disruptive or not playing by the spirit of the game mode.
  • Not all rules can be listed so use common sense when playing.
  • General Server rules can be found HERE.
  • Additional Details and examples for rules can be found HERE and linked throughout the rules.

Chapter 2: No Random Death Match [RDM]

  1. No killing or tasing another player without roleplay.
    1. Exception: If someone commits a direct hostile action against you, you may kill/tase them.
    2. Exception: You may freely shoot anyone who has your gang/group member hostage/restrained.
    3. Exception: When gangs are at war, they will see their warring enemies' names in red. Someone with a red name may be shot without engagement, whether on foot or in a vehicle. This applies to all weapons, including titans and explosives. Killing someone you are at war with while they are restrained is still against the rules.
  2. Gang/Group tags are used when engaging in roleplay. This also applies to the APD but not the R&R.
    1. APD and R&R dispatch can be used to engage all faction members.
  3. When roleplay engaging, you must specify who you are engaging and give the player(s) time to read (text message/dispatch) and react (At least 5 seconds)
    1. If someone reacts in a way that is compliant with your demand (Such as stopping their vehicle to get out), you must allow them to complete their reaction, even if it takes longer than 5 seconds.
    2. If someone reacts in a non-compliant fashion (Such as turning to aim at you or immediately taking evasive action), then you may shoot them before 5 seconds.
    3. You do not need the name of the player(s) to engage verbally, but it must be clear who you are trying to engage on.
  4. If a player abides by your demands, role-play it from there do not just shoot them.
  5. Warning shots may be given to air units (including the R&R) if you do not wish for them to land or loiter near your location (3 single rounds shot not directly at the air unit).
    1. Warning shots with a suppressed weapon are invalid.
  6. Side Chat and text direct chat can not be used to roleplay engage.
  7. Engagement typically applies within 1km of the initial fight but may extend if players actively participate, travel to the fight, or move around as part of the combat. Long-range weapons may justify extended engagements, but engagement should not be used to target distant, uninvolved players. Engagement follows active combat movement, and admin discretion will be used to evaluate disputes.
  8. RP has a 5-minute window and is extended by hostile action.
  9. Death ends the engagement
    1. Exception: When two tagged groups are actively engaged (with a player(s) on both sides alive), tagged players of either gang that get revived are still engaged.
  10. Do not excessively down/tase another player when not needed.
  11. APD Code 3 (Lights and Sirens) engages all reasonably close civilians with the APD. (If you can hear the code 3 vehicle) Evading the APD in a vehicle shortly after they code 3 engages the APD with the civilian.
  12. Some zones and situations change engagement rules. See Red Zones/Blue Zones, RnR, and Training.

Chapter 3: No Vehicular Manslaughter or Random Vehicle Destruction [VDM][RVD]

  1. Do not use vehicles to run over a player unless it is an absolute last resort (Life or Death)
  2. Players can not shoot another player downed by a vehicle or shortly thereafter unless shot at.
    1. Exception: A player that self-spangles or is spangled by a teammate can be shot without violating VDM rules.
  3. Players are allowed to collide with another vehicle (To pit, disable, rotor tap, immobilize, troll, etc.). However, if you collide with a vehicle or player on purpose and because of the collision, there is an explosion/death, You may be found accountable and banned. You initiate these maneuvers at your own risk.
  4. Do not purposefully blow up or destroy vehicles without a reason specified in the rules.

Chapter 4: New Life Rule

  1. If you die for any reason apart from dying by an Arma bug you may not return to that area for 15 minutes. (1 Kilometer from where you died)
    1. Exception: When a civilian is lethaled by cops at Rebel Outposts, APD Escorts, or Gang Base, NLR does NOT apply.
  2. The APD does not have NLR, to simulate the size of an actual police force.
  3. R&R has additional NLR-exempt scenarios, which can be found in the R&R handbook.
  4. Some events and locations change NLR. see Events. and Warzone

Chapter 5: No Combat Logging
